Welcome to the official Waneka Photography website!
My name is Ryan Waneka and I absolutely love photography! I have considered myself an artist ever since I even knew what an artist was. This had a huge influence on how I percieve photography as an art. I started taking pictures with a small Olympus digital camera back in middle school. It was obviously simple stuff because it was middle school, but right away, I began experimenting with new lighting, angles, and all that fun stuff. My parents gave my sisters and I a new Olympus Stylus camera for christmas one year. The Olympus Stylus was a very versatile camera, waterproof, freezeproof, dustproof, shockproof... heck, it could've been Kryptoniteproof. (I definitely recommend it for beginner point and shoot stuff) So as you might imagine, I took that camera EVERYWHERE. My close friends got pretty tired of me always taking pictures of them. Needless to say, I got plenty of practice.
It was definitely clear to my parents what my new passion was. Instead of a car for my sixteenth birthday, my parents gave me a brand new Sony Alpha 230 DSLR. Who needs a car? It is one of the best material gifts I have ever received, and I still use it to this day.
In fall of 2012, I won Canon's Project Imagination photography contest, one of the coolest accomplishments of my life. I put the money I won into buying a new Canon 5D Mark II, which is my current go-to camera.
My favorite types of photography are... I can't say. I enjoy all sorts of photography: landscapes, sports, animals, portraits, macro, urban/cityscapes, everything under the sun. This world is God's masterpiece. One can find beauty in anything, but if they are not looking for it, they will rarely take the time to stop and observe such beauty. I find that to be one of the most rewarding aspects of photography. What an amazing ability to capture a single moment, and to be able to share that moment with others. Everything has meaning and everyone has a story; photography can assist in expressing that meaning or story.
It would be my pleasure to help you express your story through photography.
